03/02/2010 Human Observations
Mark 13:20“If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.”
“The massive 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet, a NASA scientist said Monday. Strong earthquakes have altered Earth's days and its axis in the past. The 9.1 Sumatran earthquake in 2004, which set off a deadly tsunami, should have shortened Earth's days by 6.8 microseconds and shifted its axis by about 2.76 inches (7 cm, or 2.32 milliarcseconds.”
This tiny little news story illuminate’s one aspect of the signs of the return of The Messiah to the earth, detailing the necessity of an increase in the prevalence of “great earthquake” activity. Human powerlessness to stop the increasing difficulties should be proportionate to the difficulties. Yet, because “the love of many has waxed cold”, there is little response to these worldwide catastrophes, other than to turn a blind heart to God. Why are these days shortened “for the sake of the elect”, by the way? Because "after this" (Revelation 4:1) is completed, our Lord will again turn His attention to Israel (whose persecution related mortality numbers will reach those of true biblical proportions); to complete the populating of the kingdom of God. Just an observation.
