02/24/2010 Human Observations
In Central Falls, Rhode Island, the Supt. of Schools has determined to fire all of its High School Teachers, for their “callous disregard of the situation” that distinguishes that school system as one of the poorest performers in the USA. The Supt. proposed solutions that would have required unpaid additional work hours and duties for each teacher; a plan rejected by the Central Falls Teacher’s Union. The union was informed of the dire consequences if the plan was rejected, but they convinced these previously employed Americans to jeopardize their livelihood by voting negatively. Well, the union leaders are still employed, but the teachers will soon join the ranks of millions of other unemployed Americans citizens in the unemployment line. We are presently engaged in two wars and a nationwide economic crisis. This sudden unemployment nightmare becomes an unfortunate reality when we allow our leaders to play politics with our lives and livelihood. Our representatives must be told how to represent our thoughts; not asked to think for us. The High School Teachers of Central Falls are no longer … comfortable.
