09/03/2009 Human Observations
The American workplace is changing its employment population, as the number of women versus men has increased to more than 49%. This reflects a number of trends, but most remarkably noted is an increase in nationwide male unemployment versus rising employment in Education, Health Care, and Government; all predominantly occupied by female employees. The construction industry appears to be the hardest hit, where male employment numbers have consistently maintained dominance. So what do the numbers mean? There is a decidedly new millennial shift from muscle to mind. The economy generated by hard labour is being replaced by efforts of the office, clerical cubicle, classroom, or hospital. The female exodus from the solitary role of “stay-at-homemaker” has so dramatically impacted our socio-economic strata, we find ourselves propelled into a different kind of economic population utilization. The sexism that once inflated male employment numbers is being replaced with competency.
