The First Prophet

05/14/2011 Human Observations
I was awakened to the sound of church bells this Sunday morning.  While contemplating the dreams of my sleep, I heard the bells ringing, calling the church to worship the Lord our God.  This is the first day that I have ever heard the sounding of the bells, never before being located within earshot of a church that performs this service.  What a wonderful sound to awaken me from a very restful sleep.
Luke 1:67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, 68Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 69And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 70As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: 71That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; 72To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 73The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, 74That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,  75In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
Putting aside the rather remarkable declaration that at the birth of John the Baptist, it is a done deal that the Lord our God “hath visited and redeemed his people”, there is a peculiar reference offered by the Holy Spirit identifying “prophets which have been since the world began”.  Oh really? Who was the first prophet?  Well, let’s see:
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
…and for the next five days God created stuff.  Then, on the sixth day God created living creatures, including man, saying:
26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And after Adam’s act of disobedience, God pronounced the repercussions of sin; then said:
Genesis 3:22
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Isaiah 40:21
Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
1 John 1:1
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
1 John 3:8
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
 So, let there be clarity in the minds of those with ears to hear. We, as believers, are here to please the Lord, as says the scriptures (Revelation 4:11).  It’s not all about us, but rather we are participants in God’s work, in destroying the works of the devil.  So who was the prophet that was here in the beginning of the world?  The prophet, High Priest, and King: Jesus the Messiah.

Interesting that you see the "US" as a reference to the prophets. I allways thought that the US and WE were a foreshawdowing of the Holy Trinity fully revealed to us by Jesus.
