02/02/2010 Human Observation
During the time immediately after the Holy Spirit was given to the Apostles, in the 2nd chapter of Acts, there was a great fear of the Lord that was realized by the new converts. This particular fear is the beginning of wisdom. In that wisdom, the bible records that "they had all things in common". As a matter of fact, that specific phrase is mentioned twice, Act 2:44, and 4:32. This, to me, is an astounding response to understanding that they, after their repentance and acceptance of Jesus as their Messiah, are re-united with their Creator as the children of God. Their relief and gratitude caused them all to GLADLY sell all that they possessed and entrusted it to the Apostles, to distribute as needed. This is the Agape love I felt when I was first born again, living in Laguna Beach. This is the mindset that caused me to place less value on the things that my friends, my wife, and those of my mother’s household valued. In my gratitude and trust in the Lord, I continued, oftentimes stumbling, walking (living my life) in faith, in spite of the warnings of those around me who had accumulated many possessions. More to come, gotta go to work (There's a bit of irony!).
