Battle Weary

02/11/2005
Too much of what occurs in my life has nothing to do with my choices. They are, at this time, made for me. One would think that I was under scrutiny; or something.
The world winks at the thought of North Korea in possession of nuclear weapons, the United States shudders at the thought of Iran in possession of nuclear weapons, and I shudder at the thought of such an emboldened attitude, on a planetary basis, running slipshod without the slightest thought to an eventual crumbling of that which has been built. As thought the world has never lost its grip, civilization now gazes upon what appears to be an upheaval on the grandest of scales. Too many powers flexing their muscles, too many people in possession of too very little of what they need, and too much rhetoric about God without the slightest regard for Him. Atlas, as an old friend once said, will at some point will simply "shrug".
First thing this morning, I mentioned the resemblance between this present world and Nineveh, citing the unavoidability of a harsh reproach upon such a belligerent and brash human attitude. Joshua has spoken. How will this generation respond? The wicked people of Nineveh turned from their ways, returning to an attitude of humble submission to their Creator and Judge. This generation seems to actually believe that God is but a concept by which we measure our fame, not truly standing in tearful expectation of these earthdwellers drawing ever closer to the completion of their wickedness and idolatry. The Son is sitting at the right hand of The Father, defending us day and night against our accuser. Time, though it is not what we are taught it is, is nevertheless, running out on this generation. Is this blindness to the light of reason so prevalent as to reach even our very genetic core? It was, after all, but a matter of time before our heavenly ancestry came back to bite us. They could not resist the temptation to stray from grace; how could the their genetic disobedience have eluded us, their weaker offspring? God Himself proves that it takes far more than generations of genetic temperance to dissolve the seeds and elements of antichrist; even through the tenth generation.
