The Power of God

05/07/2011 Human Observations
1 Corinthians 117For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.  18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:  29That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
I awakened this morning considering why the miracles of the bible are so very few and far between today.  It occurred to me that perhaps the seeking of God’s council, and therefore the connection with God, was more immediate amongst those who were “endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).  Though some of them may have been educated from childhood in the word of God, they all lived according to a more improved understanding of those old teachings, in light of their discovery of the fulfillment of those old teachings in the body of Jesus, the Living Word of God.  We are guided by our minds until we acknowledge God’s law, which convicts every single one of us of being guilty of falling short of God’s standards (law).  If we then accept the only offer of reconciliation and righteousness that is acceptable to God, being the sacrifice of Jesus the Perfect Lamb of God, we are given access to God by His Spirit, which dwells within each of His offspring bodily.  Yet many, at this point cease to recognize the need for the immediate council of God, believing that our minds will somehow come to an understanding of what is appropriate for each situation of new lives.  I respond to this attitude believing that the Spirit of God cannot fill a cup that is already full …
Matthew 5:3
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
If I fill my mind with preconceived notions, then there remains no space for God to enlighten me.  If I live by my list of desires, then there remains no space for God to reveal to me what fulfillment He created me to enjoy.  Instead of me playing god, I must recognize from deep within me that He IS God … all day, every day.
