The recent 5 - 4 Supreme Court ruling in favour of a corporation's “free speech” right to unlimitedly finance a candidate for election further inserts the will of private business into the governmental and legislative process. A civilized society requires a governing body to offer standards for cooperative national behavior, and to protect its citizenry from intrusive and criminal elements. However, we will soon see how the manipulation of that legislative process, when in the hands of those who are more interested in profits than citizen protection, will convert American freedom into corporate imposed indentured servitude. Only independent thinkers will be immune to the upcoming barrage of marketing campaigns designed to turn a responsible voter into an avatar for a corporate proxy. When greed motivates action, the result only serves the greedy.
