12/13/2009 Human Observations
We are approaching the third day of the Hanukkah celebration, and just twelve days before Christmas. These two commemorative holy celebrations are a part of a lifestyle shared by those of us who have come to understand that “the most High rules in the kingdom of men”. There once was a time when, in the smugness of our self importance, we took the credit for accumulating all that we possessed; as though we actually had the ability to add an inch to our height, or change the colour of our eyes. We set ourselves above all other authority, assuming the credit for our birth, development, and prosperity. However, an encounter with the Creator of human life has offered better information, correcting our judgment, and refining our wisdom. If I make an oven, and it decides to refrigerate my food, then in the wisdom of my understanding, would I attempt to correct the mechanism, or just discard this instrument? We who acknowledge the sovereign authority of “the King of heaven” take the lesson, showing mercy to those whose insufficiency ranges from money, to wisdom, to information. This is the message of the Holy Days. Mercy.
