11/25/2009 Human Observations
I was asked, because it was thought that I had more in common with our currect sitting President than ethnic origin, if I was a Christian. This is my response.
I don’t really know much about our sitting President other than what he has spoken, and what has been printed about him. Since I did not receive an invitation to the big party last evening, it can be gathered that I am neither personally nor professionally close to Mr. Obama. However, what I can say is that he tends to speak very directly to the issues that are clearly articulated to him. That much, we do indeed have in common. I am divorced. One of my most valued lessons from that experience is to be specific; and to never attempt to read between the lines, because such is but guesswork based on assumption or presumption. I try not to be so offensive. Every human has the ability to communicate clearly. Some simply choose to “beat around the bush”. Such folks tend to stay out of conversations with me. So I answered your question about humanism. Concerning my belief that Jesus is God incarnate, who came down from heaven to present himself as the only acceptable sacrifice that would remove the sin from humankind … I have readily accepted His death in my place, and because of which, am reconciled with my Heavenly Father, to readily receive whatever He wants to give me. Even as I desire to give good gifts to my children, my Heavenly Father desires to give such to me. The darkness of my offense (sin) no longer separates me from Him, in whom is no darkness exists. So, that should answer your question: I am a born again believer in Jesus, the Messiah of the World. I worship the Lord our God; not the church. I am a part of the church; but the church is not God. The Lord our God is God. I mention this because I often encounter folks who are at odds with the idea of Christianity, as though God had anything to do with their attitude. They far too often have issues with the people who profess to be Christian. Well … I also have issues with folks who makes such profession, but my difficulty is with those folks; not the Lord our God. So when the conversation shifts towards the folks of the church, I ask: what has that to do with God? Americans theoretically represent freedom, yet are notorious for racism, sexism, homophobia, exploitation, social and economic oppression, and a veritable myriad of other offenses to civilized behavior. So are the “foreigners” correct when they attribute such offensiveness to every American, or that such behavior is somehow born out of our Constitution? No! American people are just people, no matter what their spiritual beliefs. Yet, our Constitution is the best guide for civilized behavior on the planet. What a seeming contradiction. So don’t be so quick to think you comprehend the God who gave His life for ours, just because some ya-hoo decided to make his personal prejudices someone else‘s problem. Oh my, I seem to have done it again. My, how I do go on!
