09/16/2009 Human Observations
When I was a child I walked like a child, spoke like a child. But now that I’m a man, I put away childish things.
The “limelight” has never been an intentional destination of mine. Yet, I have noticed many people who, when discovering themselves in the limelight, have acted or spoken impetuously, and in obvious discomfort. Though their minds are altered by a sudden injection of adrenaline, they nevertheless speak. If amidst anger, their words reflect their response to anger. If amidst great joy, their words reflect their response to joy. Only exercise in the formulation of words while under the influence of adrenaline will enable these folks to better control their words and behavior. Do they seek recognition in chemistry, math, physics, biology, genetics, or even … art? No. They want their opinions to be valued. Insufficient are their accomplishments in music, sports, politics, business, or even medicine. They seek the status of celebrity, to be held in “social“ esteem … What’s interesting is the kind of light that these people covet. A long time ago, “lime” was used in a lamp to produce an intensely bright light, used in theatrical productions that could reach temperatures exceeding 2500 degrees. So with this light, came “heat”. You know what’s coming: If you can’t take the heat, either keep quiet, or get out of the light.
